SUMMARY 
 The General Accountant is responsible for ensuring the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, consolidating, and entering transactions for the company.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Prepares and records asset, liability, revenue, and expenses entries by compiling and analyzing account information. 
  • Maintains and balances subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, reconciling transactions; resolving discrepancies. 
  • Maintains general ledger by transferring subsidiary accounts; preparing a trial balance; reconciling entries. 
  • Summarizes financial status by collecting information; preparing balance sheet, profit and loss, and other statements. 
  • Assists with external audits by analyzing and scheduling general ledger accounts; providing information for auditors. 
  • Assists with processing vendor invoices through the AP cycle. 
  • Other duties may be assigned.
This role will be based out of our office located in Troy, MI. Training will be conducted in-person during the first several months. There is  potential for occasional remote workdays, subject to manager discretion, although this is not guaranteed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience

Bachelors of Science in Accounting from an accredited university. At least two years of experience in accounting preferred. 

  • Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and of Statutory accounting principles. 
  • Strong analytical and accounting skills with ability to sort detail information amidst large quantities of data.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team and take on new tasks that have no previous Track record as to how to accomplish.
  • The individual will be expected to work with moderate guidance and take ownership of his / her work product. The individual will work closely with all major functional leaders of the Company.

Computer Skills
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of major accounting software packages for general ledger accounting – Microsoft Dynamics GP preferred.
